Hi Flowerlovers, Happy Thanksgiving Day! Thanksgiving is a holiday where families get together, eat some tasty foods and reflect upon the things that they are most thankful for in our life. And here are some interesting facts about Thanksgiving before you celebrate it:

  1. The first Thanksgiving was actually a three-day celebration.

In the Past, Thanksgiving was actually held for three days celebration. Because the Pilgrims celebrate this day as a party and it lasts for days. Governor William Bradford organized the feast and invited the Plymouth colonists’ Native American to the party. But it was only until the Wampanoag Indian guests came and joined the Pilgrims that they decided to extend this celebration. But nowadays, Thanksgiving is only for one day celebration.

2.  In 1939, Thanksgiving was celebrated on the third Thursday in November

The holiday was originally celebrated on the fourth Thursday before to lengthen the holiday shopping season. It has been proclaimed by Franklin D. Roosevelt. He tried to offer seven more days shopping days to the holiday season. However, it was not going well so it was legally switched back in 1942.

3.  About 46 million turkeys are cooked for Thanksgiving each year.

It has been the tradition. 91% of Americans eat Turkey on Thanksgiving day, while 50% of Americans put the stuffing inside the turkey. And during the Christmas celebration, about 22 million families host an encore with another turkey. Wow!

  1. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

This parade was begin on 1924 and originally known as Macy’s Christmas Parade. This parade held to signify the launch of the Christmas shopping season. It was launched by Macy’s employees and featured animals from the Central Park Zoo, NYC. Nowadays, for about 3 million people still attend the annual parade and another 44 million people watch it on television.

  1. Three places in the US named Turkey

There are three places in United States named after this Thanksgiving celebration traditional course : Turkey. In Texas named as Turkey, in LA named as Turkey Creek and in N.C named as Turkey. Beside that, there are also nine townships around the country named as “Turkey” with three in Kansas.
